Play Streets Return in N. Chattanooga!

We’re excited for the return of Play Streets! Sign up here to volunteer.

The North Chattanooga Neighborhood Association (NCNA) is excited to bring back Play Streets, kicking off the season with our first event on May 8 from 5:00–6:30 PM on Colville Street.

Play Streets temporarily closes a section of road to remind our community that families live and play here. By limiting vehicle traffic, we transform our streets into safe, welcoming spaces where children can lead the way—running, creating, imagining, and exploring freely.

Research shows that people benefit most from accessible, open spaces close to home. Walkable, community-centered areas help strengthen neighborhoods and make them more vibrant and inviting. With limited dedicated play spaces available, temporarily closing our streets brings play directly to where people live—while reinforcing the importance of safety, connection, and well-being. NCNA continues to support these efforts through projects like Sylvan Park and future plans for neighborhood green spaces.

Everyone is welcome at Play Streets! Bring your family, friends, and neighbors—the more, the merrier. Adult participation is encouraged, but please note that a parent or caregiver must remain in attendance at all times.

To help keep Play Streets safe and enjoyable for everyone, please keep the following in mind:

  • Play Streets is all about child-led play—have fun!

  • Do not enter private yards unless invited.

  • Please clean up after yourself before leaving.

  • Pets are not allowed at Play Streets.

This season’s events will take place on the following dates and locations:

  • May 8 – Colville Street & Park: Kickball Kickoff

  • June 5 – Boylston

  • September 18 – Normal Avenue

  • October 2 – Colville Street & Park

We are also thrilled to announce that the Creative Discovery Museum is sponsoring Play Streets this year—helping make these events financially sustainable for our neighborhood while also providing engaging activities for participants.

Play Streets depends on community support, volunteers, and donations. If you’d like to get involved—whether by volunteering, sponsoring, or contributing—please reach out. Thank you for helping make these events possible!
