Sylvan Park Workday
Sylvan Park Update: The Trail is Officially Happening!
If you're walking near Sylvan Park this week, you might notice things look a bit different. After many months of watching sheep munch through the privet and navigating through the county and city to get permits, our trail builder, Barry Smith, finally started work on the new trails on Monday. It's one thing to see the concept on paper, but seeing actual progress on the ground feels like a huge win for our neighborhood.
We aren't just clearing a path; we're finally connecting parts of the neighborhood that were once intentionally left disconnected, and the entire neighborhood to an asset that had been long neglected. The old entrance along Franklin street will remain, and new trailheads will be added at the intersection of Woodland Avenue and Noll Street, and at Colville Street near Forest Avenue.
The goal has always been to keep this space as a true bird sanctuary, so work is being done carefully. We're keeping native trees intact while carving out a space where we can get outside and enjoy nature.
We still need your hands
We've got pros handling the heavy equipment, but some of the finishing touches and ongoing maintenance to keep the invasives at bay are on us. We need anyone that doesn't mind getting their hands dirty to join us for quarterly workdays to keep the improvements going
Mark your calendar for the next workday on Saturday, March 28th at 9:00 AM. If you have gloves, weed wrenches, rakes, or any other useful tools please bring them with you. Sign up here to let us know that you are coming!
