Join us for the 2nd Spring 2026 NCNA Safer Sidewalk workday on Federal

This Saturday, April 18th 9-11 AM

📍 Where

Federal Street sidewalk across from the Liberty Street intersection. The primary work spot is downhill from the Normal Park Upper School near Liberty Street with a few smaller spots uphill.

What to Bring

Must-haves: water, work gloves, sturdy shoes
Nice-to-haves: hedge trimmers, loppers, rakes, flat tipped shovels, leaf blowers, small saws or chainsaws, weed eaters, wheel barrows for moving dirt removed from sidewalk
(We’ll have extra tools on site, so come even if you’re empty-handed.)

What We’ll Do

Over 400 feet of sidewalk along Federal Street has been impassable for years — possibly decades. As the longest stretch of lost sidewalk in the NCNA area, it was saved for near the end of our initial recovery efforts due to the significant work required. That changed last weekend, when neighbor Kevin Hix brought his tractor and single-handedly tackled the bulk of the cleanup. Thanks to his remarkable generosity and hard work, our crew now only needs to clear a few remaining spots and do a final cleaning. It promises to be an enjoyable workday — and one that restores a major stretch of sidewalk to the community.

The large chunk of sidewalk that we need to finish is from 723 Federal to 809 Federal. There is also a smaller spot near 703 Federal that we will work on this Saturday, if time allows, or on our next workday.

4/18/2026 (this Saturday’s workday), 5/2/2026 and 5/16/2026, 9 to 11 am

- Multi day cleanup and clearing of sidewalks on Federal downhill from the Normal Park Upper School
